Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Baby Name Origins Revealed

Find out the meanings behind Knox Leon & Vivienne Marcheline...

The names of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s newest additions, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, were inspired by members of the superstar couple’s family.

Knox was the middle name of Pitt’s grandfather, and also ends in the letter X which is in keeping with older brothers Maddox and Pax.

Vivienne does not have any apparent family ties, but derives from the French version of the ancient Latin name which means alive.

As for the middle names, Leon is the monkier of Jolie’s great-great grandfather’s, and Marcheline is a tribute to her mother, the actress Marcheline Bertrand who died of cancer last year.

  • I think Vivienne Marcheline is very nice. It appears to be a nod toward her mother, perhaps a wish for rebirth or for the spirit to live on. It's very pretty. Knox will take a little longer to get used to, but I'm sure they don't care about us! If Brad's honoring his grandfather, then that's a good show of family love.
