Miley Cyrus is hoping to provoke a response from a certain ex-boyfriend – Nick Jonas if you believe the rumours – when the video for her new single debuts on Saturday.
The Hannah Montana star vents about a past love who broke her heart in 7 Things - and has used the accompanying promo to make sure her message gets across loud and clear.
Cyrus says writing the song was "a good little therapy moment" for her, and admits "the word hate could describe how angry I was."
Speaking on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on Wednesday morning, she said, "That's Miley going through, like, 900 emotions while I'm trying to write a song."
And she hopes the target of the tune is upset enough to call after the video gets its US debut on Saturday night.
She adds, "I wanted them (sic) to be upset. That was my point.
"Maybe after my video we'll hear from somebody, because it's pretty honest."
Miley reveals the Brett Ratner-directed video features herself and other heartbroken girls using the words of the song to attack exes.
Some of the stars of the promo were apparently so caught up in the moment they burst into tears on camera.
Cyrus says, "Almost every girl in America could say, at one point, they hate their ex or current boyfriend."
