John Mayer is concerned that he's not being treated as a serious musician now that he is one half of the 'celebrity couple' known as Johnnifer.

In a likely fruitless move, the singer-turned-tabloid favourite has begged the paparazzi to stop snapping him performing "mundane" tasks and focus on his career.

Since Mayer hooked up with Aniston, the couple has become regular tabloid fodder, with photographers following their every move.

And now he fears the attention is damaging his reputation.

He laments, "I don't have a problem with my privacy as much as I have a problem with people messing with my message.

"If you're going to take pictures of me doing mundane stuff, will you at least take pictures of me playing guitar? Because, right now, it looks like all I do is drink coffee and do dry cleaning and go eat dinner."
