The BBC reportedly received complaints following Madonna’s performance at Radio 1’s One Big Weekend on Saturday.
The singer swore twice during her short show, which was broadcast live on BBC television and radio.
Addressing the audience, Madonna told fans that they were “going to have to start fucking it up out there ’cos I need to feel some love.”
She later said: “I’m going to do an old song. But not too old. Fuck the present. Let’s live in the past.”
DJ Zane Lowe, who was presenting the BBC’s coverage of the event, apologised following the singer’s performance, which was her first in the UK since the release of her latest album Hard Candy.
The BBC was reprimanded by the media watchdog Ofcom in April after viewers complained about bad language broadcast during its coverage of last summer’s Live Earth.
Madonna was among a number of artists who swore during their performance at the global warming event.
