Kylie Minogue Admits Cancer Fight Is 'Not Over'

As she celebrates 40th birthday...

Sunday 06th Apr 2008

Kylie Minogue has admitted her fight against cancer is “not over“.

The pop star has been in remission after undergoing treatment for the potentially fatal condition three years ago, but Kylie - who is celebrating turning 40 - says her life is still overshadowed by the disease.

“It’s not over,” quotes the Sunday Mirror, “I still go for regular check-ups. The 'voyage' doesn't end suddenly. That's why it's so difficult to talk about it."

However, despite admitting some of her management team feared her decision to announce her condition in May 2005 could harm her career, Kylie says she’s sure she made the right decsion in going public.

"It's wonderful to know that in talking about it, I'm perhaps helping women, families and also some men with breast cancer,” she explains.

  • Kylie needs to get over herself with this.Millions of us ( some far younger than her) have had cancer some of us in a few places in body. She is far from alone.Nobody, including myself ,talks about it for 3 years on and on and on .Every time her name is mentioned or she opens her mouth it is about cance,r endless harping in papers is very wearisome. One gets dramatically ill has the operations required, embarks on the treatment as ordered and once over one moves on.She is wallowing now for press

  • I am amazed at Emma from St Mawes could say this about Kylie or anyone else who has gone through this illness or another. What a nasty embittered person she is. I too have had this disease not once but twice and I think that Kylie is as entitled as the next person to deal with her illness in her way regardless of her famous name. And the reports from Kylie herself have been few and far between just because reporters report on her doesnt mean that she herself has said a thing. Shame on you..

  • Emma, your attitude is disgusting. Kylie never talks about her illness. It's so clear how uncomfortable she gets raising the issue. Get over yourself. You are a sad woman.

  • Given her high profile I think Kylie has done great to talk so realistically about the implications of having aggressive breast cancer. Emma: everyone deals differently with cancer and many of us fear recurrence and our likely future deaths from this awful disease. Kylie is right to highlight this fact.
