The reason for Britney Spears’ brief jaunt to Mexico in early January was so that she could secretly get hitched to sometime boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, it’s been claimed.
After shaking the paparazzi off her tail with a false report that she was in New York, the singer then surfaced in Rosarito Beach where she was spotted crusing around in her Cadillac Escalade with Ghalib.
But Star magazine claims there was more to the impromptu trip south of border than Brit's normal erratic behaviour.
Star editor Candace Trunzo tells Gatecrasher: "Our source on this was not in Rosarito Beach at the ceremony, but is very familiar with the fact that [wedding] documents exist."
If true, the marriage will be legally meaningless because Adnan is still married to his wife, AzLynn Berry.
Brit last eloped in 2002, when she exchanged vows with childhood sweetheart, Jason Allen Alexander, at the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Strip in Las Vegas.
The marriage lasted all of 55 hours before it was annulled.
