Amy Winehouse scooped a massive five gongs at yesterday’s Grammy Awards, in what was a triumphant night for the troubled star.
Despite Wino not being present at the Los Angeles ceremony, she was on video link-up from a London studio throughout the evening to accept her five awards and perform the tracks ‘Rehab’ and ‘You Know I’m No Good.’
The singer scooped Record of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘Rehab’, Pop Vocal Album for ‘Back To Black’, Best New Artist and Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Upon accepting an award, a jubilant Winehouse accompanied by her mother Janice said: "Thank you to everyone at Island (her record label), my mum and dad. This is for my Blake, my Blake incarcerated, and for London because Camden Town is burning down."
Another big winner on the night was Kanye West who treated the audience to a ‘future-shock’ performance which he dedicated to his late mother Donda, saying: “I know you're really proud of me right now and I know you want me to be the number one artist in the world. And mama, all I'm going to do is keep making you proud.”
The star scooped five awards including the Best Rap Album.
He said upon being handed the prestigious honour: "It definitely feels good to be home here at the Grammys. You know, we snuck in about four, five years ago, and now we basically made this our new place of residence."
Other big winners on the night were Bruce Springsteen with three, The White Stripes took two including Best Rock Performance, while Justin Timberlake, Carrie Underwood and Mary J Blige also went home with two awards.
The Chemical Brothers scooped the Grammy for Best Electronic Album with ‘We Are The Night’, while Foo Fighters won the Best Hard Rock Performance honour.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was Herbie Hancock who scored the Record of the Year for ‘Herbie Hancock for River: The Joni Letters’, his tribute to Joni Mitchell. It’s the first a jazz album has triumphed in the awards’ 50 years.
The performance of the evening went to Beyonce Knowles who teamed up with Tina Turner for a duet of ‘Proud Mary.’ Turner also performed her own tracks ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ and ‘Better Be Good To Me.’
