Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez and Salma Hayek were amongst the celebrities who joined Madonna for the UN fund-raising dinner for Malawi orphans in New York City.
The $2,500-a-plate dinner and live auction hosted by comedian Chris Rock also attracted an array of other celebrities including Drew Barrymore, Demi Moore Ashton Kutcher, Rihanna, Djimon Hounsou,and burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese.
"It was an extraordinary evening. The whole evening was quite moving," Cruise told The Associated Press.
Katie Holmes echoed her husbands sentiments by adding that the United Nations is "an absolute necessity.”
A heavily pregnant Lopez – who is due to give birth to twins any day now - managed to joke with the press outside the event.
“It takes a lot to get me out of the house these days.”
Gucci Chief Executive Mark Lee later revealed that the star-studded event had raised $3.7 million “before the guests sat down to dinner.”
