Javier Bardem's 'No Country' Haircut Sparked Depression

Spanish actor feared 70s bowl-cut would mean no sex for months...

Javier Bardem's 'No Country' Haircut Sparked Depression

Javier Bardem’s No Country For Old Men co-star has revealed that the Spanish actor suffered from "full-blown depression" after having his hair styled into a bizarre 1970s bowl-cut to play a sadistic killer in the movie.

Bardem - who is hot favourite to take home the Best Supporting Actor gong at this month’s Oscars - was apparently so ashamed of his dramatic new look, that he almost became a recluse.

Josh Brolin claims: "He was depressed during the process...He felt like he wouldn't have sex for three months. Full-blown depression. I mean, bad.

“(He) didn't like the way he looked. He'd stay home for hours on end. He wouldn't go out.

Bardem himself admits that the unusual look had a psychological effect on him.

He says: "You see yourself, you see the haircut. You don't realise that it's affecting you in a very delicate way, through your own psyche.

"What happened to me was that after a couple of weeks, I was a little bit - a little bit - strange to myself. There was something that was not familiar. It was like, 'What am I doing here?'"

Luckily the hair style didn’t have any lasting affect on his pulling skills – Barden is currently romancing fellowing Spanish star, Penelope Cruz.

Would you hit it?

  • What an a**hole. There are more important things in life to be depressed about. Give me a break. He should be very happy he is not like the people who don't have the money for their mortgages and may lose their homes. THAT is something to get depressed about - not how you look with a new hair cut! Get real!
