Michelle Williams has reportedly told her two-year-old daughter she shares with Heath Ledger that ‘daddy has gone away.’
Following his shock death last month, a source has revealed to a U.S. publication that the former Dawson’s Creek star – who arrived in Perth Australia on Wednesday ahead of Ledger's final burial – is still struggling to come to terms with the 28-year-old actor’s untimely death.
"Michelle was always really vulnerable, so this has shaken her quite a bit," a friend of told Us Weekly. "She's mourning and trying to figure out what to do next.”
The insider also revealed that Matilda – who is a first child for both Ledger and Williams – is “too young” to understand what’s going on around her.
“Michelle and the family are showering Matilda with love right now to cushion it so she isn’t really aware,” a source close the family reveals.
“Michelle basically told Matilda, ‘Daddy went away.’ Matilda still doesn’t grasp it.”
Despite splitting from the Brokeback Mountain star last year, Williams - who maintained a healthy relationship with Ledger - insists that the actor will live through his daughter.
“All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day,” she said in a statement released Friday. “His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still.”
A New York Medical Examiner ruled yesterday that Ledger died from an accidental overdose of six prescription medications, including painkillers, sleeping pills, anti-anxiety pills and antihistamines.
As reported by Entertainmentwise yesterday, The Dark Knight star is expected to be buried at his family's plot in Karrakatta Cemetery in his native Perth, Australia on Saturday.
