Britney Spears Seeking Treatment For 'Mental Issues'

According to U.S. TV host Barbara Walters...

Tuesday 29th Jan 2008

U.S. TV host Barbara Walters announced on The View yesterday that Britney Spears is finally seeking psychiatric treatment.

Walters said on the U.S. daytime show that Brit’s ‘manager' Sam Lutfi contacted her over the weekend in a bid to clear up rumours about the troubled singer's mental state.

She told viewers: "I can't vouch for this; he seemed to be very knowledgeable and he certainly was very nice.

"He said that Britney is suffering from what he describes as mental issues which are treatable.

"He said that she has been to a psychiatrist...she has been having mood swings, she's been having trouble sleeping...Whatever has been happening, she's now sleeping."

Lutfi also told Walters that Brit had healed the rift with her mother Lynne.

Walters said: "She is in touch with her mother... and her mother has been very supportive."

The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg added: "I said I thought there was something emotionally wrong. I think this girl has worked and worked... and she's burned out."

Walters also claimed that the pop mess had ditched her paparazzi boyfriend Adnan Ghalib, after he appeared to cash in on their affair by dishing on Brit and playing her intimate voicemails on U.S. news shows last week.

The TV host said: "I'm not an authority...but I believe she has moved away from this boyfriend."

Sources close to the singer told PageSix that it was actually Brit –  who initiated contact with Walters, before passing the phone over to her Lutfi.

Sources also tells the site that the troubled pop star visited L.A. psychiatrist Dr. Deborah Nadel on Friday - although, it is not certain whether this was a court-mandated psychiatric evaluation or a personal visit.
