It’s been suggested that Heath Ledger may have died from natural causes.
The respected actor was found dead in his New York apartment last Tuesday from an apparent overdose of prescription medication.
However, sources closely connected with the investigation tell U.S. website TMZ that it now appears that the level of toxicity (from medication) in Heath's system was so low that it may not have caused his death.
Sources say that the Brokeback Mountain star's heart stopped, and a heart attack can not be ruled out, even though he was only 28.
Authorities have also rubbished suggestions that Heath’s masseuse – who called Mary-Kate Olsen rather than 911 after discovering the actor unconscious – was involved in a plot to remove illegal drugs from the Heath's apartment before police and firemen arrived.
Authorities tell TMZ that there would have been no opportunity to carry out such a plan because the police were there the entire time that Mary-Kate’s bodyguard was present.
Toxicology results available in the next two weeks should provide some definitive answers and put an end to speculation over the cause of Heath's tragic and untimely death.
