The conspiracy theories surrounding Katie Holmes’ participation in last November’s New York marathon are picking up speed.

The actress was pictured crossing the finishing line, having apparently completed the race in a respectable 5 hours and 30 minutes.

Later the same day, a glammed-up Katie stepped out with husband Tom Cruise for the premiere of his film Lions for Lambs.

Whilst Katie has put her achievement down to listening to Kanye West’s Stronger on her MP3 player, there have been suggestions that the modern day Stepford Wife couldn’t possibly have run 26 miles during the day and then gone out in heels the same night.

Let’s examine the 'evidence':

Some conspiracy theorists point to the fact that there are no photos of the actress during the race (only triumphantly crossing the finishing line) as evidence that she didn't actually run it.

Gawker reports that Katie’s “split times” (times registered electronically at various stages along the route using a micro chip carried by each runner) exactly match that of another runner. Were they faked?

Finally, there's the mystery ‘lone runman' - the guy wearing bib no. 6074 who was seen running with Katie but is not listed in any official marathon records.

So did Katie skip-to-the-end or are there just a lot of very bored people out there?
