The family of Britney Spears has claimed - via their rep - on U.S. television that they feel betrayed by “self-serving” Dr. Phil, after he spoke out publicly about the pop wreck.
Lou Taylor, a spokesperson and business manager for her mother Lynne and sister Jamie Lynn, told the Today show that the family had never agreed to appear on the TV doc’s planned Britney special, and that he breached their trust with his comments about the star.
Lou said: "What's wrong with Dr. Phil's statement is that he made a statement.
"The family, basically, extended an invitation of trust for him to come in as a resource to support them, not to go out and make public statements."
Lou did admitt that Dr. Phil visited Brit during her hospital stay at the requestion of her mother, Lynne.
Dr. Phil released this statement after his meeting with the singer, saying: "My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of medical and psychological intervention . "
