Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn have filed for divorce after 11 years of marriage citing “irreconcilable differences”.

Sean, 47, and Robin, 41, filed separate papers in Marin County this week. Maybe they had a really bad Christmas?

The pair – who wed in 1996 – have two teenage children together, Hopper Jack, 14, and Dylan Frances, 16.

Penn, previously married to Madonna, won an Oscar in 2003 for Mystic River (although he should have got one for 21 Grams instead, released in the same year) but has been more noted in recent years for his outspoken political views, most notably his opposition to the 'war' in Iraq.

Fellow actor Wright was last seen in ‘Beowulf’.
