Bionic Woman fans may be in for a shock with industry insiders claiming that the once hit series has been axed.

The show – which was brought to a halt following the Hollywood writers' strike – has reportedly been dropped by Universal after ratings fell by more than half from 13.9 million viewers to just 5.9 million.

"This is devastating news for the cast” an insider told a British newspaper “They loved working on the programme. Michelle is going to be very upset. This was a huge break for her - a chance in a lifetime.

"The show has been criticised. People complained about the poor storylines. But the writers have hardly any time to work with the characters. They were just getting used to them."
