Matt Damon has beaten the likes of Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Patrick Dempsey to be named number one in a list of sexiest men alive.

The list compiled by People magazine gave the top spot to the Bourne Ultimatum star because of his "irresistible sense of humour" and "heart-melting humility".

So what did the sexiest man alive have to say about his title?
 
"You've given an aging suburban dad the ego-boost of a lifetime" said Damon.

Others in the top ten included Scarlett Johansson’s other half Ryan Reynolds, Atonement star James McAvoy and Will Smith.
