Oprah 'Promotes Work Of Racist Author'

It gets even worse for the talk-show host...

Oprah 'Promotes Work Of Racist Author'

Oprah Winfrey is in hot water yet again. After the humiliation of child abuse allegations at a school she set up in South Africa, she has now been unwittingly recommending children’s book written by a racist author on her website.

The talk show host has since pulled Forrest Carter's children's book The Education Of Little Tree from a list of recommended titles on her website, citing an "error" as the reason for including the work of a hardcore racist in the first place

When it was first published in the mid-1970’s, The Education Of Little Tree was described as the real-life story of an orphaned boy raised by his Cherokee grandparents.

But in the early 1990’s, the author of the award-winning book was ousted as leading member of American white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan.

  • It’s interesting how much the press (and a few bitter members of the public) is salivating over the recent scandal surrounding alleged abused at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. My suspicions are that most of the press and critics that are gloating now have absolutely no sincere concern for the welfare of the pupils at the school. This is more about a bit of a ‘gotcha’ factor.

    • Well said. The press care less about the issues they so sanctimoniously prate on about than about the puerile thrill of sinking another celebrity, more's the better if she's female. Exactly what are they trying to convince us of on this one? That Oprah CONSCIOUSLY chose the work of a white supremacist author, as a black woman? How desparate. Everyone occasionally makes mistakes. We don't trust celebs who try to act a little too perfect, so why get so vicious when they prove themselves not to be?
