She may have sparked outrage amongst Catholic leaders, but the general consensus amongst critics is that Britney Spears’ new album Blackout is a major hit.
Whilst the 25-year-old has been labelled as “devoid of personality” some critics claim the pop-tart – who hasn’t released a studio album since 2003’s In the Zone – has produced her best work yet.
The AP's music writer claims that the mother-of-two produced “not only a very good album, [but] it’s her best work ever - a triumph, with not a bad song to be found.”
The BBC went as far to declare the Toxic singer’s song Piece of Me – which focuses on her dramatic upbringing - a "masterpiece.”
The New York Times adds that after Spears’ recent troubles the album was "bracingly unapologetic" but like other critics they questioned the influence of Spears’ production team on the record.
As it stands Gimme More – which is the first single from her fifth album - is number 13 on this week's US Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and Blackout is currently the number one most downloaded album on iTunes.
