World surfing champion and serial-celeb dater Kelly Slater was detained on Saturday following a scuffle with paparazzi trying to take pictures of him with Israeli supermodel Bar Rafaeli.
Police confirm that the incident occurred as Rafaeli and Slater left a hotel in the Tel Aviv suburb of Herzliya in the earlier hours of Saturday morning.
It’s alleged that a brawl broke out when Slater pushed a lensman to prevent him snapping the couple.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld confirms that Slater was taken for questioning and later released.
Rafaeli is said to be in Israel for a photo shoot to appear in next year's Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition.
Slater, an American of Syrian descent, was visiting Israel for three days for Surfing for Peace and One Voice.
The Israeli media has reported Rafaeli recently split from her boyfriend of eighteen months, Leonardo DiCaprio.
