Mariah Carey stole the show at VH1 Save The Music 10th Anniversary Gala last night, where she was honoured for her contribution in music.
"Music has always been my saving grace," said Carey, as she accepted her award.
"Like everyone growing up, my life wasn't easy. I don't always like to talk about it in great detail, but music saved my life literally."
She added: "Writing songs and singing is so therapeutic for me.
I was often discouraged. Thank god, I never gave up."
Carey also discussed the hype surronding the follow-up to her multi-platinum comeback album The Emancipation of Mimi.
Although the title remains unknown, Mariah told fans to expect a very “modern sound.”
