Australian actress Naomi Watts has given birth to a baby boy in Los Angeles yesterday.

Alexander Pete Schreiber, weighed in at 3.2kg and is the first child for her and partner Liev Schreiber.

According to a source the baby arrived ahead of schedule for the King Kong star;

"Naomi was planning on giving birth next week� a source told Life and Style magazine �Her due date was early August - but since she insisted on delivering naturally, she knew there was a chance she would have the baby before the due date,"

"This is a dream come true for both of them and they've done everything in their power to make it as special as possible, right down to staying in the dark about the baby's sex right up until Naomi gave birth."

Watts and Schreiber met on the set of their 2005 movie � The Painted Veil.

Schreiber created a media frenzy earlier on this year - after he told reporters at the Tony Awards that he and Watts had secretly tied the knot.

However the couple later confirmed that Schreiber made the comment in good humour.
