As we reported last week, Chris Benoits Wikipedia biography entry was updated to include his wifes death some thirteen hours before investigators discovered the bodies of the professional wrestler and his family.
Now, an anonymous user has confessed on WikiNews to making the changes to the entry but explained that there was no mystery behind the edit - it was just a "terrible coincidence" fueled by rumors and gossip.
The user wrote: "I just can't believe what I wrote was actually the case, I've remained stunned and saddened over it."
Benoit's Wikipedia page was altered at 12:01 a.m. Monday, even though authorities did not find the bodies until after 2 p.m. that afternoon.
The entry claimed that the reason Benoit missed a match Saturday night was "stemming from the death of his wife Nancy.
The entry was updated by someone using an IP address registered in Connecticut, where World Wrestling Entertainment is based.
Benoit, 40, strangled his wife and 7-year-old son before hanging himself in his basement using a weight-machine.
