According to a national newspaper, the shores of Iceland will serves as some of the outside locations for the forthcoming Star Trek movie, directed by J.J. Abrams.

The planned production for �Trek� will be the biggest the country has ever seen.

The volcanic surfaces of the nation suggest that the production is planning to use it as the setting for a distant planet.

The substantially bigger budget means the movie will be one of the first �Trek� films to be substantially filmed off of US soil.

Elsewhere, writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have said some major castings are set to be announced at the forthcoming San Diego Comic-Con this month.

At the moment, three actors are strongly rumoured for the role: Gary Sinise (as Dr. �Bones� McCoy), Adrien Brody (as Mr. Spock) and Matt Damon (as Captain Kirk).

Refusing to be drawn on those rumours, the writers simply implied that some very big names are attached.

The film, the 11th in the series, is set for a 2008 release.
