WWE’s Chairman McMahon Makes Non-Apology

On Tuesday nights Extreme Championship Wrestling programme, WWE chairman Vince McMahon made a non-apology about the choice to broadcast a three-hour dedication show to recently deceased Chris Benoit.

The 40-year old was found dead in his home having hanged himself on a weight pulley machine. It is believed he also strangled his wife Nancy to death, as well as his son Daniel who was suffocated.

The Canadian-born wrestler was unable to appear at scheduled shows this weekend due to a family emergency. After receiving a number of curious text messages from Benoit, WWE asked authorities to check his home in Fayetteville, Georgia where they found all three dead bodies, each having been killed one a day, Nancy on Friday, Daniel on Saturday and Benoit himself on Sunday.

The replacement of Monday Night RAW to the tribute show were made before the full facts surrounding Benoits death were apparent. Before Tuesday nights ECW show, Vince McMahon made the following statement:

However, some 26 hours later," he said, "facts of this horrible tragedy are now apparent. Therefore, other than my comments there will be no mention of Mr. Benoit's name tonight. On the contrary, tonight's show will be dedicated to everyone who has been affected by this terrible incident. This evening marks the first step of the healing process. Tonight WWE performers will do what they do better than anyone else in the world - entertain you."

Speculation is still circulating that the consumption of steroids by Benoit resulting in paranoia, depression and explosive behaviour (otherwise known as roid rage) were responsible for his actions.
