Rod Stewart finally made an honest woman out of his long-term girlfriend Penny Lancaster in Italy yesterday.
The leggy blonde became the veteran singers third wife in a low key morning ceremony in a 17th Century villa on the Italian Riviera attended only by Lancasters parents.
The bevy of celebrity guests including Sir Mick Jagger and Sir Elton John were not invited, leaving the couple to celebrate their marriage with a cappuccino in a street caf before retiring for a spot of sunbathing, although they did hold a reception in the evening.
Local councillor Maria Benazzi, who conducted the ceremony, told the Daily Mail, It was a very simple and sober ceremony that lasted about 20 to 25 minutes.
Rod Stewart was my idol when I was younger, so to carry out his wedding ceremony was a great honour.
"There was the classic simple civil wedding service, with an exchange of rings, and at the end I pronounced them man and wife.
"They kissed each other and her parents applauded."
When asked how the ceremony had gone, Rod, 62, gave a thumbs up and said, I feel fantastic.
