Alec Baldwin has apologised for calling his daughter a �pig� in his first TV interview since his infamous phone rant was made public.

The actor has told US TV show The View in an interview to be broadcast later today that he was wrong to lose his temper with his 11-year-old daughter Ireland in a phone message heard the world over after it was posted on an internet site.

He says, �Obviously calling your child a pig or anything else is improper and inappropriate and I apologise to my daughter for that.�

However, the 49-year-old star also had a sly dig at his ex-wife Kim Basinger � who he is currently having a bitter custody battle with � over the situation.

He explains, �There's nothing wrong with being frustrated or angry about the situation but, as people often do in this world, I took it out on the wrong person."
