Naomi Campbell spent her first eight hour shift yesterday cleaning up the New York Department Sanitation Department, and appeared not to have a care in the world.
Campbell donned army work boots, work gloves, a reflective orange tabard and dust mask over her designer ensemble, yet still managed to look a million dollars.
Naomis first task of the day was cleaning the garage which is home to New York citys rubbish trucks. A source told The Sun: the trucks were coming in and out. She had to keep clearing up the mess they left. The garage is full of mud and grit that falls off the smelly trucks. She had to pick up cigarette butts too. Its a supermodels nightmare.
It seems Campbell hasnt lost all over her diva airs and graces though, losing that famous temper of hers when someone tried to take her photo. Someone tried to take her picture and she screamed at a policeman to grab the camera. This is hardly her usual work, so she doesnt want to be snapped.
Sanitation Department boss Al Durell praised Naomis efforts, saying the star had done a fine job. He added: There was a lot of water and residue including salt from recent snow, so that needs clearing. She changed out of the stilettos she arrived in and wore combat boots and an orange vest. She was dressed appropriately.
She did not complain and carried out the tasks.
Naomi worked until 4pm with one other woman and two men who are also doing community service. At lunch time the model showed those expensive tastes once again, instead of tucking into home-made sarnies she ordered in a meal from a fancy restaurant.
A co-worker at the building said Naomi had surprised staff with her hard work, but added she most definitely had her work cut out: She worked really hard and asked the supervisor How am I doing? he told her she was working harder than some regular staff. But some of the women who work here have been a bit catty and say they are going to make extra mess for her to clean.
However, Naomi seems to be talking it in her stride, quite literally, with an onlooker saying: She sashayed out of that warehouse like she was walking on a Milan catwalk she didnt seem at all bothered to be there. When she left at the end of her shift, Naomi grinned and said: Im good. Thanks.
