Anti-fur campaigner Heather Mills has defended her decision to wear a fur coat to a wedding.

A photographed has been published of Mills, who is currently going through a divorce with Paul McCartney, wearing a mink coat o a wedding in 1989.

The coat is said to have been made from up to 40 animals, but Heather has excused her actions saying she only did it to make her feel closer to her mother who had just died.

Writing on her website, Heather said: "The coat belonged to my mother, who had sadly died just a few days earlier and I wore it as it made me feel close to her."

Mills is an ardent animal rights campaigner, she branded former PETA supporter Naomi Campbell a "hypocrite" for sporting fur, but says she has no regrets because she was young at the time and uneducated.

She said: "I am not ashamed I wore it. At the time I was not a vegetarian and I was not an anti-fur campaigner. I was extremely young and not aware of the issues surrounding the fur trade."
