Richard Linklater To Direct Dazed and Confused 2

Reprise for Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey...

Dazed and Confused is being considered for the sequel treatment by director Richard Linklater.

At a recent Q&A in a New York Convention, he mentioned that his next project will be a college-based movie, sparking suggestion that the movie will be an update on the early 90's movie.

Whether or not this is viable, considering even the youngest actors in the movie are now in their late 20's, is yet to be revealed but no doubt Hollywood's bright young things would be clamoring to be involved in the sequel to the stoner classic which launched the careers of both Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey, as well as up-and-comer Rory Cochrane (CSI:Miami, Little Black Book, A Scanner Darkly)

If this happens, we can't wait to see this film, why are there pyramids and eyes on dollar bills anyway?

  • Im sure Matthew will demand at least two scenes where he gets to take his shirt off. Ben will just be Ben, clueless about technique and the acting craft in general. Sort of like a male, East Coast Sofia Coppola who fails up at every turn. Go figure.

  • This lousy idea should not happen. Unfortunately, most recent movies and tv shows that focus on youth are either Disney-grade or idiotic mock-ups like Scary Movie. Gone are the serious, bittersweet dramas like My So Called Life. Its most likely that Even More Dazed and Confused: The College Years will turn out to be a low-budget, direct-to-video bit with none of the original cast and no good acting, plus toilet humour. Plus, it would be set in the 80s. And that’s the scariest part.

  • I agree that it should not happen. The movie does not need a sequel, especially if it would be made with a different cast. There are already enough movies about the 80s imo. American grafitti was made in the 70s and set in the 50s, Dazed and confused was made in the 90s and set in the 70s, let's just wait 3 more years or something and make a new film about the 90s, with new actors and a new plot.
