The Departed is going to win Best Picture at the 2007 Academy Awards (or Oscars to friends) according to research done by Tiscali anyway.

As we�re all eager to find out who will win what at this year�s Oscars ceremony, Tiscali have teamed up with psychology lecturer and consumer behaviour and entertainment expert David Moxon to research the formula for Oscar success and predictions for this year�s event.

Here comes the science: Apparently the formula revolves around how successful the film was (in the past five years, every winning movie has grossed within the top three films of the five nominated).

Applying Moxon's research to this year's contenders indicates the race for Oscar glory will be one of the closest in years.

More importantly, that means Martin Scorsese may finally take home that coveted gold statuette.
