Sir Ian McKellan has branded this years Bafta awards as downmarket and low key" as stars such as Jennifer Hudson failed to show.
The Lord of the Rings star criticised the event after it failed to attract either Alan Akin who was named best supporting actor for Little Miss Sunshine, or best supporting actress winner Jennifer Hudson, who won for her role in Dreamgirls.
Despite Dame Judi Dench, Dame Helen Mirren and Forest Whitaker being in attendance, he admits, "I thought it was a little down, a little downmarket."
The actor says he didnt rate Jonathan Rosss debut presenting the awards either, lauding previous host Stephen Fry for his past efforts.
He adds, "I thought he (Ross) was a bit low key. He played it respectful. Stephen had been doing it for a long time and he was full of jokes but maybe Jonathan thought, 'I'll be the serious film connoisseur
