Camilla Parker Bowles has been forced to cancel all her upcoming engagements, as she is due to go into hospital at the end of next month to undergo a hysterectomy.
The wife of Prince Charles, Camilla will be spending four days in hospital and then a further six weeks at home recovering.
The news sparked rumours that the Duchess of Cornwall had cancer, but it was strongly denied by her spokesperson who said the operation had been �planned for a while� and that the procedure was considered major, but is expected to be routine.
Camilla and Charles are still set for a 10-day trip to the Gulf states next week, but it is expected to be their last overseas visit for quite some time.
�The timing of the operation was scheduled to cause minimal disruption to her diary,� the spokesperson added.
