Angelina Jolie�s mother Marcheline Bertand has died after battling cancer for over seven years at the weekend.

The 56 year old actress passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles on Saturday Jolie said in a statement to the Associated Press.

Jolie and Brad Pitt as well as her brother James Haven were at her bedside when she died.

A private funeral is being planned and the family have asked well wishers to make a donation to the Women�s Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai.

Ordinarily Iâ€™m really harsh on Jolie, but this is really sad. Itâ€™s common knowledge she was very close to her mom. 56 is too young, and she put up the good fight for many years apparently. Was not being sarcastic on a previous post when I said I hope she will be able to open the door to her father one day. Whatever the source of their estrangementhopefully they get it worked out before he goes. Obviously, you never know how much time you might be given with someone. Hope they can make up

Totally with you on that Moxy. I lost my mum to cancer. She probably thought her mum would pull through but sadly not this time. I hope sheâ€™ll reach out to her dad. Heâ€™s very sorry for what happened Iâ€™m certain. I do hope she wonâ€™t turn against pitt when things turn sour between them. The children will suffer like the way sheâ€™s suffered. I hope itâ€™ll make her cherish her family even more and put her ghastly past with her dad behind.

My deepest condolences go out to Angelina Jolie on the loss of her mother, I lost my mother not too long ago so I know what she is going through. I wish her well. She has the loving support of a great guy.Also congratulations on your baby Shiloh, she was born on my birthday MAY 27. God bless you.

My deepest condolences to out to Angelina Jolie and family. I know that this is a very hard moment for you and only God knows why you have such beautiful children at a time that is so hard they are there to keep you busy and help you through out this sad moment in your life. Only they can occupied that hurt and make you love them even more in a moment so hard. They are your cure. Now that your mom has left this world she will be the angel that will always be looking out your you Angie and yours.
