It seems that Simon Cowells acid tongue is just a venomous across the pond.
The presenter, famed for his harsh comments on the X factor, is now presenting the US version, American Idol.
He has come under heightened criticism for his recent attack on contestants competing for a place on show.
Cowell fought back at anger over his mocking comment on one contestant which he called a Bush Baby by saying, If you dont want to hear that, dont show up.
He also called one tall hopeful a giraffe and asked another overweight contestant whether hed borrowed the trousers of chubby fellow judge Randy Jackson.
An Entertainment Weekly critic said, The American Idol auditions in Seattle sometimes crossed the line into outright cruelty.
The poison tongued judge retorted by saying that contestants know what they are getting themselves in for and should not take off-the-cuff remarks too seriously.
He added, "If he's offended, then I apologise. I might never call anyone a bush baby again."
