Last night, on the wonder that is Big Brother�s Big Mouth, Russell Brand made the point that we shouldn�t call Jade names, that doing so would be just as bad as the hateful, vicious bile that the Essex millionaire and her idiot bullies have aimed towards Shilpa over the last week. He�s right of course; such a pathetic vendetta as that conducted by the three almost doesn�t deserve a dignified response.
Almost, but not quite.
Because let�s not skirt around the issue here: this is bullying of a quite staggering scale, made all the more startling as it�s being conducted on a national stage, in front of tens of millions of people worldwide, who would have watched Jade�s argument over stock cubes with jaws hitting the floor. Put simply, there hasn�t been a televisual moment of such cringeworthy, overwhelming embarrassment since David Brent decided that he was the best dancer in his office.
Whatever �career� the self-appointed �minger� had before she came in the house has now been extinguished in a rush of righteous, poetic justice. The show that made her, that endeared her to a public shocked by the level of hate being sent her way by tabloids keen to laugh at her ignorance, has now left her a figure of disgrace and national shame.
Not only should Jade be kicked out emphatically on Friday, but the clip of her collapsing in a wretched, laughable fit of apocalyptic rage, surrounded by grinning morons who have neither the intelligence nor the heart to intervene, should be played on an endless loop on television and in public squares up and down the country, begging the question: Is this the country we�ve now become? Certainly not. Has Big Brother, in first creating the monster, now exposed her true ugly, vile and ultimately pointless soul? Oh yes.
Reality television has always seen the good will out�never will this be seen more clearly than on Friday. The rise of the idiot ends here.
