The man who created Scooby Doo, The Flinstones and The Jetsons Iwao Takamoto has died at the age of 81.

The animator created the characters while at Hanna-Barbera and later went on to become vice-president of Waner Bros Animation.

He was also involved in the design of the films Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatinas and Cinderella during his six decade career.

He is said to have created Scooby Doo after a conversation with someone who looked after Great Danes and named him after Frank Sinatra�s scat style singing.

His death follows the recent passing of Joseph Barbera who was 95.
