Former X Factor contestant Ben Mills has revealed that he quit taking drugs after waking up on a beach after a five day bender.
Ben had been a favourite in the race to a win recording deal, but was booted off on Saturday leaving Leona and Ray to go head to head in next weeks final.
Before securing a place as a finalist on the ITV reality TV show Mills was in Doors tribute band The LA Doors and he spent every penny he earned on drugs.
Speaking to the Sun he said: �The last time I did drugs, I woke up after a five day bender.
�I was outside most of the time, lying on the beach, I was in a really bad state.
�I�d been gigging all weekend and me and one of the band members just went on this bender. We just didn�t sleep the whole time.
�I though, �I have got to sort my life out�. I thought, �Oh my god� what the hell am I doing lying on a beach, really miserable? I just spent a fortune and had nothing to show for it.
�Every penny from gigs I spent on drugs. Drugs were ruining my life. I was spending hundreds of pounds a week on cocaine.�
Ben is now keeping clean and getting so far in this year�s X Factor has only made him more determined to succeed.
Although Ben admits he wanted a place in the final he is happy to root for both finalists Ray and Leona.
He added: �Obviously I would have loved to have made it but this show is made for Leona and Ray. It�s their type of music, their type of glossy performance.
�They�re both stage school kids and a part of me feels like I couldn�t compete against that.�
�But I have to admit that it all got too much for me, I thought there�s no way I could win.�
