Guns N' Roses Cancelled Gig Due To Booze Ban ...more Guns N Roses »

Guns N Roses cancelled their gig in Maine last week because theyve were banned from drinking alcohol during the concert.

The band were told by state fire marshals inspecting the intended pyrotechnics display that drinking during the intended performance in Portland last Monday would violate state laws so the group promptly pulled out.

In a statement singer Axl Rose explained, It was important for us to play there and it is a shame that what should have been a great night for all of us was not possible due to the actions of two people (the fire marshals)."

"I agree with, and ultimately take responsibility for, the end decision not to jeopardise the safety of the fans, the crews, the bands and myself as a result of the methods of these particularly draconian authorities. We hope to find another way to play for you in the future."

The bands manager Merck Mercuriadis has also responded to criticism of the cancellation by stating it had nothing to do with slow ticket sales, claiming the fire marshals, made it clear that they intended to harrass our fans, crew and the band through enforcing rules and regulations that are 200 years old.

  • I’m not surprised Portland officials would do something like this. Portland is an awful town with the meanest inbreed downeast hypocrites you could ever meet. Maine is the Alabama of the North except that it turns into Ice Station Zebra from November until May. Funny that a state with a terrible alcoholism rate would care about a band drinking on stage. God, how I hate sanctimonious, self-rightous small town minds. Never go back, Axle. The town is a shithole.

  • Portland is a small town, and they are being absurd to put these constraints on Guns N’ Roses... Whatever happened to good ole raunchy rock and roll? I saw Frank Zappa once, and he pretended to **** a chicken, such a Zappa thing to do. Should artists be scrutinized down to the point where they end up looking like Bible thumpers and never doing or saying anything ”offensive?” Please this is rock and roll. All rockers should stick to large, progressive cities so that they can express themselves.

  • Maybe because I used to anchor the news at WCSH, Portland lover. I stand by my words. You cannot find more nasty, inbred, provincial, smug little minds anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. Take pride in your one horse town, Deering Oaks and Three Dollar Dewey’s. And I worked at WMTW. Another place where people are treated like crap. Bob Elliott died from all the stress they caused him at 6. Don’t get me started about all you Washington County potato picker dolts. Where’d you grow up, Blefast?

  • Call me whatever you want. I worked with inferior people in Portland and in Austin because they came cheap. All the talented, smart people were in bigger markets. Austin and Portland look for compliant mediocrity and I forgot to play the game. You didn’t, so you fit in with Orwellian compliance. By the way, I saw Axl and his band at the Ist Mariner Center in Baltimore monday night and they shredded the building. They didn’t get off stage until 1:40AM. And they drank all night long . Questions?
