Reese Witherspoon has filed for divorce following her separation from her husband of seven years Ryan Phillippe.

The actress filed the divorce petition at the Los Angeles Superior Court citing "irreconcilable differences" and requesting sole use of the fasmily home.

The pair announced their separation last week and in a statement said that �they remain committed to their family�.

The couple married after meeting at Witherspoon�s 21st birthday party and later working on the film �Cruel Intentions�.
