Police officers have charged a New York construction worker with the murder of actress Adrienne Shelly.

Shelly was found hanging from a shower rod in her Greenwich Village apartment last week; at first police assumed she had taken her own life, but a man has now been charged with her murder.

Diego Pillco, 19 was arrested yesterday and charged with second degree murder; at the time of her death Shelly was renovating her apartment and Pillco was one of the construction workers employed to help her.

Although police officers had stated that the most likely cause of death was suicide they were still investigating some mysterious aspects of Shelly�s death; no note was left by the actress and footprints found in the bath did not match those of Shelly.

Pillco was taken in for questioning yesterday and questioned for a number of hours before he �made statements�; the police have yet to elaborate on the nature of Pillco�s statements.

In recent years Shelly had focused on writing and directing rather then acting; she had recently written and directed �Waitress� starring Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion which was about to be released.

Shelly is survived by her husband Andy Ostny and their three year old daughter Sophie.
