Sir Paul McCartney has denied the claims of his estranged wife Heather Mills McCartney that he beat her and stabbed her during their marriage.
Leaked divorce papers yesterday claimed that Macca did the following:
- Stabbed her in the arm with a broken wine glass after one argument then flung her into a wheelchair, demanding she apologise for "winding him up"
- Pushed her into a bath while she was four weeks pregnant.
- Continued to use illegal drugs and drink excessively, despite promises made before they married.
- Grabbed her by the neck and pushed her over a coffee table.
- Made her cancel a crucial operation because it interfered with his holiday plans
- Forced her to crawl on her hands and knees up the steps of a plane because they were not wide enough for her wheelchair.
However, it has today been revealed that Macca has applied for custody of his two year old daughter Beatrice as he believes Mills is incapable of bringing her up; she is now desperate to blacken his name.
Macca is still hoping to keep things civil and discuss the issues in court rather then the tabloids.
He has released a statement through his lawyers that says:
�Since the breakdown of his marriage Sir Paul McCartney has maintained his silence in not commenting on media stories believing that it was best for all concerned, particularly his children, for there to be some dignity in what is a private matter.
�Our client would very much like to respond in public and in detail to the allegations made recently against him by his wife and published in the press but he recognises, on advice, that the only correct forum for his response to the allegations made against him is in the current divorce proceedings.
�Our client will be defending these allegations vigorously and appropriately.
�Our client is saddened by the breakdown of his marriage and requests that his family is allowed to conduct their personal affairs out of the media spotlight for the sake of everybody involved.�
Friends believe the divorce papers have been leaked in the wake of Macca making a bid for full custody of Beatrice.
One friend told the Mirror: Paul feels Heather is a bit of a loose cannon and wants to become Bea�s prime carer. Of course he�ll make sure Bea maintains a close relationship with her mum. But he fells it would be better for her to live with him.
�Heather was furious when she found out. This is her best chance of bringing him down � she wants to destroy him.
�Paul didn�t hit her. She�s just trying to paint him as an unfit father because she doesn�t want him to get custody.�
Other close to Macca has also slammed Mills, Macca�s former publicist Geoff Baker said of the former model: �Heather Mills is a complete fucking fantasist. I wouldn�t believe this fabricating tart. She�s only saying this for attention.�
Lawyers for Mills have claimed she is extremely shocked that the divorce papers have been leaked and stated that she did not have anything to do with the leak.
A spokesperson from lawyers Mishcon de Reya said: �She has not spoken about anything and that�s still her view. Heather would not commit perjury.�
