Katie Melua's Deep Sea World Record

Katie Melua set a Guinness World Record for the deepest underwater concert at a gas rig in the North Sea yesterday.

Katie and her five piece band performed two underwater concerts at a verified 303m below sea level at Statoil Troll A Platform gas rig; the tallest structure ever moved by humans.

The concerts were performed to an audience of Statoil Troll A Platform members at 12:00 and 14:00 GMT to celebrate Statoils 10 year anniversary.

Before the gig, which was broadcast on Norwegian TV channel NRK, Katie underwent a medical examination as well as strenuous survival training.

Katie said: This was definitely the most surreal gig I have ever done and it is pretty mad to think this afternoon I was playing a concert at the bottom of the sea and then this evening, having been flown back to London, I will be sitting at home with a cup of tea!

Katie's next concert will be at the rather more conventional Wembley Arena on December 3.
