Pete Townshend has spectacularly killed off Doris Day on a track on The Whos new album.

In the song Mirrors Door the aging rocker lists a series of musical and screen legends who have kicked the bucket with Doris Day included, despite the fact shes still alive.

The lyrics read: Howling Wolf, and old Link Wray / Dave Van Ronk and Doris Day / Bobby Darin, Brownie McGhee / Elvis, Buddy and Eddie C.

Townshend only realised the mistake once the album Endless Wire was sent off for print.

He told the Sunday Express: I was absolutely convinced she was dead.

Doris Day is still alive and kicking at 82. 'Endless Wire' hits the shelves on October 30.
