Chris Penn was found dead in his Santa Monica home in January; despite finding although Valium, morphine, marijuana, an antihistamine and codeine in his blood the coroner ruled that Penn had died of natural causes caused by an enlarged heart.
Penn, who weighed 300lbs at the time of his death, has been described as an unhealthy self-abusing individual.
Speaking on Larry King Live, Sean Penn said of his younger brother: �The problem was weight.
"He had certainly been a fantastically self-abusing guy over periods of his life, but that wasn't the case in the end.
"I mean, it was a natural death. But a natural death that was brought on by some hard living, but particularly weight.
His younger brother�s death has deeply affected Penn who was close to Chris, also an actor, describing his loss he said: "It's a piece of you. I'm one of three, so I'm either my right, left arm or the centre at various times, and each was the other, so I intermittently have lost my right arm, the left or in the centre, but that's life and people go through that.�
