Jessica Simpson has fired her publicist following a turbulent week for the pop star.

The singer has dumped long-term Publicist Rob Shuter after a series of embarrassing headlines appeared in the press.

It�s believed to have stemmed from reports in a number of US publications romantically linking Simpson to music star John Mayer, with People magazine even quoting her as saying: �I�m in love!�

Both Mayer and Simpson went on to deny the allegations, with Mayer himself admitting that he was annoyed by the saga.

The pop star�s father Joe Simpson is though to have personally handled the sacking, although this is yet to be officially confirmed.
