Kiefer Sutherland and Helen Mirren were both winners at the Emmy Awards in LA.

Mirren was awarded the Best Actress gong for her portrayal as Elizabeth I in a Channel 4 series that was screened on HBO.

The British actress said more about her outfit then her role on receiving her award; she said: �I�m wearing stripper�s shoes that I bought for $49.99 on Hollywood Boulevard to make me taller.

�My great triumph is not falling arse over tit as I came up the stairs. If you saw the shoes I�ve got on you�d understand.�

The film won an amazing nine awards over the course of the evening, Mirren�s co-star Jeremy Irons won the Best Supporting Actor award and the drama was named as the Best Mini-series.

Channel 4 drama Chief Francis Hopkinson said of the award wins: �It is fantastic to have the quality of the drama and Helen�s magnificent performance acknowledged in the UK.�

Star of �24� Kiefer Sutherland finally picked up an award for his performances as Jack Bauer in the hit TV series; he was named as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama.

He said: �Every once in a while you�ll have an evening that just reminds you that you�re given too much. This is that evening.�

The Office was also celebrating after it was named as Outstanding Comedy Series, Ricky Gervais quipped: �I more or less run this town now.�
