Boy George has revealed that his stint as a street cleaner in New York has changed his life.

The former Culture Club front man was ordered by a New York judge to sweep the streets for his community service after falsely reporting a burglary.

Speaking to the Sun, Boy George admitted: �It�s been quite grounding, because I have no structure in my life. The media has this image of me as this big faggot sitting on cushions all day eating grapes.

�But I�m a real person � I have a hoover, I don�t have a cleaner. So the idea I can�t pick up a broom and shovel is ridiculous.

�The hard work was good for me. You just get on with it.

�I think people didn�t expect me to actually work but that�s what I came here for. And it turned into a good experience.

�Some of the people I worked with were an absolute blast � I loved them and we had a riot.

�I�d even volunteer to come back once a year to do a week cleaning if need be.�

Could we be seeing a new, charitably minded Boy George in the future????
