The Red Hot Chili Peppers and latin pop queen Shakira have dominated the nominations for this year�s MTV Video Music Awards.

They both received seven nominations each while Madonna and Panic! At The Disco followed close behind with five and Christina Aguilera on four.

All five were nominated in the Video of the Year category at the ceremony in New York on August 31.

The Chili Peppers �Dani Cailfornia� is nominated for Best Group Video, Best Rock Video, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Editing.

Artists confirmed to perform at the event so far include Las Vegans Panic! plus The Killers and Justin Timberlake.

Other bands to receive nominations include Green Day for Best Rock Video and U2 for Best Special Effects and Best Editing.
