New �Superman' actor Brandon Routh has revealed he received the blessing of Dana Reeve before she died of lung cancer earlier this year.

The wife of Christopher Reeve, the original �Superman� sent Routh a note that said �Go Forward� and contained two red pendants bearing the famous �S� on them.

Routh added in an interview with the Mirror: �In her note she expressed her happiness that another �Superman� film was being made and she thought it was cool I looked like Chris.

�She said she thought I�d be a good �Superman� and wished me luck. I can�t tell you what that was like, to get her blessing. It was very important for me to know she was ok with it and we weren�t doing anything against her wishes.�

The previously unknown Routh is currently preparing himself for the big time, but he seems remarkably composed about his future.

He said: �I�m going to take it one day at a time. I�m prepared for it, but I�m going to take everything with an open mind and a smile on my face. I realise I am going to change in a lot of positive ways.�

�Superman� opens in the UK this Friday.
